Manchester United face 'bidding war with Chelsea for David de Gea replacement' and more transfer gossip

Manchester United could rival Chelsea this summer for Internazionale goalkeeper Andre Onana amid question marks over David de Gea's future.

United remain in talks with De Gea over a potential extension of his time at Old Trafford. The Spaniard has been at United since 2011 when he was purchased from Atletico Madrid by Sir Alex Ferguson as Edwin van der Sar's replacement.

However, De Gea's deal at United is poised to expire in two weeks and if an agreement cannot be reached, he will leave the club for free.

In the club's retained list, United confirmed that discussions remain open with De Gea over a new deal, although the MEN understands it is increasingly likely that he will leave.

It means United could well be in the market for a new number one stopper and a candidate in the form of Onana has emerged. He lined up for Inter in the club's Champions League final loss to Manchester City.

However, if United do want Onana, they could face competition for his signature. The Guardian reports that Chelsea have pinpointed the stopper as their 'top target' to replace Edouard Mendy.

United are said to be 'keen' on Onana as a long-term De Gea replacement. However, a bidding war may follow between the two English clubs as a result if the pieces fall into place.

Elsewhere, United are rumoured to be preparing a bid of nearly £60m for AC Milan's Theo Hernandez. Corriere della Sera reports that both United, City and La Liga clubs are interested in the Rossoneri star.

That report can be filed under 'highly unlikely', though, given the price tag, United's transfer priorities (a striker and a midfielder) and the fact that they already have two senior left-backs in Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
