Manchester United will turn their attention to the Europa League on Thursday night in a Battle of Britain clash against Rangers.

The Red Devils’ are enduring a horrendous domestic campaign with the club 13th in the Premier League after their latest 3-1 defeat to Brighton.

The Last Time These Sides Met

Wayne Rooney scored from the penalty spot in a narrow 1-0 victory in the Champions League group stage when these sides last met in November 2010.

United’s record goalscorer netted from the spot in the 87th minute after Steven Naismith’s high challenge on Fabio da Silva.

The result sent United into the last-16 of the Champions League, while demoting Rangers to the Europa League.

It also extended United’s unbeaten run at the time to 28 games in all competitions. The current Red Devils team is some way of reaching the levels of that United team from just over 14 years ago.

One To Watch: Hamza Igamane

Rasmus Hojlund is the joint top scorer in the Europa League with five goals – though Rangers star Hamza Igamane is only one behind.

The 22-year-old Moroccan has 13 goals in 25 appearances across all competitions for the Scottish side this season.

In the Europa League he netted his first goal of the tournament in their 4-0 win over FSCB after missing their first two games.

He then netted a brace in the 4-1 win over Nice and added another to earn Rangers a point against Tottenham.

Igamane has also netted five goals in his last four league games, including a hat-trick against Dundee. So Ruben Amorim’s side will have to keep a wary eye on the forward in Thursday’s Battle of Britain.
