Manchester United: Erik Ten Hag denies suggestions of Ajax transfer raid and remains coy on Cristiano Ronaldo

Erik Ten Hag has denied reports he could be set to raid Ajax this summer when he takes over at Manchester United.

The Dutchman will move to Old Trafford at the end of the season, on the back of interim manager Ralf Rangnick repeatedly calling for an extensive rebuild.

Rangnick will continue on a consultancy basis even despite his appointment as Austria manager and has spoken of the need to bring in top quality signings.

Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba are all out of contract in the summer, while more are expected to leave in what looks like a change of philosophy at Old Trafford.

Naturally, Ten Hag has been linked with a number of players at Ajax, including defender Jurrien Timber. Given the very specific way in which Ajax operated, there is a certain logic in leaning on players to have operated in such a system.

The 52-year-old, however, has denied any suggestion he is already looking to bring players over with him.

“No, there are no agreements about that,” he said.

“I now have very good players, but it’s not an issue at all.”

Another big decision for Ten Hag is the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, although he was not keen to discuss the forward at this early stage.

“Those are questions for the future,’ ten Hag said.

“We are in an important title race and an important week. I now want to focus my attention on that and not on Manchester United.”
