Manchester United: Edmond Tapsoba on ‘three-man shortlist’ after Tottenham pull out of transfer talks

Manchester United have reportedly put together a three-man shortlist to bolster their defence ahead of Harry Maguire’s exit.

The England defender has agreed to sign for West Ham in a £30million deal shortly after having the club captaincy removed, due to him not being in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

According to reports, United will return to the transfer market for a new defender despite seemingly wrapping up their business with the £72million addition of Rasmus Hojlund.

Manchester Evening News name Edmond Taspoba as a player admired by United, the Bayer Leverkusen centre-back who was recently the subject of talks over a move to Tottenham.

As Standard Sport revealed last week, Spurs pulled out of the running to sign Tapsoba amid claims earlier in the summer that Leverkusen want £61million for the 24-year-old.

According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Jean-Clair Todibo of Ligue 1 club Nice and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard are also on United’s shortlist.

France international Pavard is said to be keen on the move but talks over a deal for Tapsoba have reportedly already begun.

The Red Devils are not set to reintroduce veteran defender Jonny Evans into their first-team ahead of his short-term contract expiring.
