Manchester United defender Raphael Varane injured playing for France

Manchester United centre-back Raphael Varane has limped off with a hamstring injury while playing for France.

The 29-year-old was forced off after an hour of his country’s Nations League match against Denmark after pulling up and clutching his left leg. His hamstring was seen wrapped up once off the pitch.

It’s yet another setback for the defender who has been plagued by injury this season. Varane missed a total of 13 league games for United during his debut campaign, six of which came during a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring issue across November and December.

His recent record will be a concern for new United boss Erik ten Hag, who is in the market for a centre-back this summer. Victor Lindelof stepped in for the Frenchman on a number of occasions last term.

Lindelof ended the season with six more league appearances than Varane (28 to 22), despite the France international being ahead of his teammate in the pecking order.
