Manchester United defender Luke Shaw reacts to playing against Manchester City in FA Cup final

Manchester United's Luke Shaw is relishing the opportunity to play Manchester City in the FA Cup final at the end of the season.

United have already won the Carabao Cup this term, but Erik ten Hag now has the chance to win his second piece of silverware in just his debut season at Old Trafford after leading his side to the final of England's oldest cup competition.

The Reds needed penalties to defeat Brighton in the semi-final at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, with Victor Lindelof converting from the spot to ensure a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final for the first time.

United will now take on City on Saturday, June 3 at Wembley for the FA Cup, which they last won in 2016 with Louis van Gaal in charge.

Shaw is looking forward to the contest and he admitted playing City in the final will add an extra dimension to the game.

"They [Manchester derbies] are always very special games to play in, but for there to be a trophy to win at the end of it is obviously a massive incentive for us and what we want to achieve this season," Shaw told MUTV.

"They [fans at Wembley] were unbelievable, they were amazing and they helped us a lot. I think what is important to us is that they stick with us. We've still got a lot of games to go in the Premier League.

"It's important we get top four, but for me, they've been amazing all season and hopefully the last push now is coming and I know they're definitely going to be waiting for that final [FA Cup final vs Man City]."

Shaw, who is a natural left-back, was also asked for his thoughts on playing at centre-back and he revealed he enjoys the role.

"To be honest, when I play in that position I really enjoy it, I like it a lot," he added. "Obviously with the injuries and suspension to H, I knew I would be playing here today and I spoke a lot with the manager in the last few days about what he wanted me to do.

"I'm happy to help the team with wherever I play and hopefully today, I did that"
