Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot reveals stance over new contract

Manchester United player Diogo Dalot admits he "loves playing for the club" while confirming discussions over a proposed new contract to keep him at Old Trafford beyond 2024.

Cast aside while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at the helm, Dalot has since established himself as first choice at right-back under Erik ten Hag and talks have been held regarding an improved deal to reflect his status. Dalot has made 23 appearances for United in all competitions this season.

As part of the agreement he signed for United when touching down from FC Porto four years ago, the club have triggered a one-year option on Dalot, otherwise he would have become a free agent next summer. However, it is widely expected that the 23-year-old will be tied down on longer terms with a wage increase.

Dalot said: "I think we are in a position to say that we are talking about it, we are negotiating, we are seeing how both parties will benefit. It is no secret that I am happy to be here.

"I love this club and I love to play for this club. We will see how things progress, but we are in a good direction for the team and, for me, this is the most important and, hopefully, individually I can still help the team."

Dalot was signed by former United manager Jose Mourinho from FC Porto in 2018 - with his signature costing the Premier League giants €22million at that time. He spent the 2020/2021 season on loan with AC Milan and has now totted-up 87 games for United in all competitions.
