Manchester United dealt potential Harry Maguire suspension blow in FA Cup fixture vs Fulham

Captain Harry Maguire will miss next month's FA Cup semi-final against Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley through suspension - should Manchester United see off Fulham in this afternoon's quarter-final showdown at Old Trafford.

The centre-back, who started for the second game in succession, was booked with 21 minutes on the clock. He was guilty of dragging Cottagers striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to the ground, leaving referee Chris Kavanagh with little choice but to book the England international.

Maguire, who has struggled for frequent opportunities this season, was starting for the second game in a row after Raphael Varane was ruled out through injury. The Frenchman was not included in the matchday squad with a knock.

Speaking to ITV Sport ahead of kick-off, United manager Erik ten Hag said: "Win the game, it's all about that. Of course, we want to play a good game, but first of all, it's about winning.

"You have to find a way to win. Obviously, Raphael Varane together with Licha [Lisandro Martinez] is a very good partnership, but we have good [players] behind them as well. With Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, so we have a good squad there."

Maguire, who will be hoping to start for England when they face Italy in their opening fixture of their qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 on Thursday evening, has played in each of United's four FA Cup fixtures this season, starting on three occasions. However, he will be unavailable to face Brighton at Wembley - should United advance - at the end of April after his yellow card against Fulham marked his second booking of the Reds' FA Cup campaign.
