Welcome to the United On My Mind daily round-up, where we take a look at some of the best Manchester United stories that you might have missed.
Reports in Italy link United with a January move for a defensive midfielder who is also on the radar of Jose Mourinho's Roma. Another player linked with the club is set to join rivals Manchester City.
And finally, Premier League legend and former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has had his say on Jesse Lingard potentially moving to his former team.
United to 'sign midfielder in January'
Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport reports that United have enquired about Boubacar Kamara's future, whose contract expires in the summer.
United and Jose Mourinho's Roma are reported to be the two front runners and Marseille's president Pablo Longoria has said about the situation: "We talked a lot with Kamara, there is mutual respect between us. Logic will ultimately prevail: we will listen to what is best for the player and the club. But for us this is not a pleasant situation."
With the club set to lose the player on a free in the summer, it seems that they want to cash in during the January window.
My view: Kamara has always been my preferred option for a defensive midfield signing. He's still young and tactically versatile. He is more defensive than some of the other options mooted, such as Amadou Haidara and would be available for a cut-price fee, an all-around great signing.
United 'target' to sign for City
The MEN have stated that Manchester City are in talks to sign River Plate's 22-year-old striker Julian Alvarez.
Alvarez had been linked with a move to United and a report in the Times stated that United had been offered the chance to sign the striker but ultimately turned it down.
The Argentinian striker scored 18 goals and registered six assists in 21 games this season and will fill City's much-discussed striking void.
My view: He is a striker that I like, so it is painful to see City signing him, but at the end of the day, several top young strikers will be available in the summer, so United don't need to rush into anything, and Ralf Rangnick will have an idea who he wants to recommend.
Shearer wants Lingard
In a one-word answer on his Twitter account, the Newcastle United legend gave his blessing to Lingard's potential move to his former club, simply replying 'YES' to a tweet by YouTuber Statman Dave asking whether the 29-year-old would be a good signing.
Lingard's contract expires in the summer, and January presents United's last chance to secure a fee for the player.
My view: It seems unlikely that Lingard will get game time under Rangnick at United, nor will he sign a new contract, so it is probably best for all parties if he moves on.
Newcastle are looking to move up the table, and if Lingard can replicate the form that saw him thrive at West Ham United, they will be getting a top player.
