Manchester United have appointed Erik ten Hag as their next permanent manager and he will soon start work as he aims to turn the club's fortunes around. But to help him achieve success at Old Trafford, the club will have to make sure that he has the right people in his backroom staff.
His current assistant manager at Ajax, Mitchell van der Gaag, could join Ten Hag at Old Trafford, while former United coach Steve McClaren could be set to make a return. The duo will be tasked with helping the squad fully understand the manager's tactics and philosophy.
But what about United's current staff? Many fans expect Mike Phelan to leave the club at the end of the season and Chris Armas is also expected to leave after helping Ralf Rangnick in his interim spell in charge.

However, according to The Telegraph, Ten Hag wants to keep Eric Ramsay as part of his backroom staff. Many fans will be confused due to the discourse surrounding United's inability to score from set-pieces this season, however, United have improved defensively and this means that the coach could still have a role to play.
Under Rangnick, Ramsay has improved the team's defensive structure when it comes to set-pieces and United have conceded significantly fewer goals. This is both directly from opposition corners and free-kicks but also in counter-attacking transitions from United's own set-pieces.
This is something of a weakness in Ten Hag's teams. This may be partly due to the height of his centre-backs, Jurrien Timber (5'9) and Lisandro Martinez (5'8) at Ajax, but the way his players organise themselves in the box could also be a factor.
The most high-profile example of this was in the Champions League this season. Ajax crashed out to Benfica in the last 16 after losing 1-0 in the second leg.
Darwin Nunez found too much space in the box in the 74th minute and was able to get his head on the end of a free-kick. This was Benfica's only shot on target of the game as Ajax had played brilliantly up until that point, though they failed to make the most of their chances.
Ramsay could help solve this problem and towards the end of this season, United have also started to score more goals from corners and free-kicks. He could be an invaluable asset to Ten Hag and the club and so he deserves to stay.
