Manchester United consider selling Fred as the FA begins engraving winner's name on cup early

United consider selling Fred to Fulham

Manchester United midfielder Fred has emerged as a target for Fulham.

The Manchester Evening News understands intermediaries have proposed a possible move for Fred, 30, to Fulham as United want to recruit a younger midfielder.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was filmed speaking with Fred outside Old Trafford before the Londoners departed the stadium on Sunday. Fred is approaching the final year of his contract, which was extended by a year in the winter.

Why the FA Cup has already been engraved

The FA Cup has been partially engraved ahead of this weekend's final.

The fixture is the first time in history that a Manchester derby will be played in the FA Cup final and the decision has been made to partially engrave the trophy early with the word 'Manchester'.

Either United or City will, obviously, be added to the trophy following the conclusion of the final at Wembley on Saturday 3 June.

The FA’s Director of Professional Game Relations, Andy Ambler, said: "It’s remarkable that these giants of English football have won the competition on 18 out of a possible 141 occasions between them but not met in the final until now."
