Manchester United confirm whether Van Nistelrooy will remain with new management team

Manchester United have confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy has departed the club after serving as interim manager in recent weeks.

The Dutchman stepped into the role temporarily following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag on October 28.

Van Nistelrooy, who returned to Old Trafford as an assistant coach in July under a two-year contract, achieved three wins and one draw in his four matches as caretaker boss, with the team scoring 11 goals during that period and keeping two clean sheets.

Despite these positive results, incoming manager Ruben Amorim, who is still waiting for a visa before he can officially begin coaching, has opted not to retain Van Nistelrooy's services.

The 48-year-old is a former Netherlands international striker and enjoyed a successful five-season playing career at Manchester United in the early 2000's.

He was previously head coach at PSV Eindhoven after being appointed in March 2022, and went on to win the Johan Cruyff Shield and the 2022-23 KNVB Cup before sensationally resigning, citing "a lack of support".

A club statement on Monday afternoon read: "Manchester United can confirm that Ruud van Nistelrooy has left the club. Ruud rejoined in the summer and has taken charge of the team for the past four matches as interim head coach.

(Image: PA) "Ruud is, and always will be, a Manchester United legend.

"We are grateful for his contribution and the way in which he has approached his role throughout his time with the club. He will always be very welcome at Old Trafford.  "Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also departed and we wish them all well for the future. "We will confirm the full men’s first team coaching composition in due course."
