Manchester United confirm squad numbers for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui

Manchester United have confirmed the squad numbers for new signings Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Central defender De Ligt officially joined United on Tuesday, signing a five-year contract after sealing a £43m move to Old Trafford.

The Dutch international reunites with former manager Erik ten Hag, who brought him to prominence at Ajax while still a teenager.

United have worked to strengthen their defence this summer, with Bayern teammate Mazraoui also moving to the club. The Morocco international has signed a four-year deal.

The Red Devils reportedly beat Real Madrid and Liverpool to the signing of Leny Yoro earlier this summer, though the former Lille defender is expected to miss around three months after suffering a foot injury on his second appearance.

De Ligt has been handed the squad number 4 at Old Trafford, last worn by Sofyan Amrabat and previously occupied by the likes of Phil Jones, Owen Hargreaves, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans and Gabriel Heinze.

Mazraoui will wear the number 3 this season, last occupied by Eric Bailly.

The pair could make their debuts on Friday night when Ten Hag’s side host Fulham in the Premier League opener.
