Ralf Rangnick has confirmed Edinson Cavani will leave Manchester United this month.
Cavani joined United on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020. The centre-forward made an excellent start to life at Old Trafford and the news of his decision to extend his contract at the club for this season was warmly welcomed.
However, Cavani has struggled for fitness this term and his commitment has been questioned. With Cristiano Ronaldo sidelined, United's attacking options have been depleted and Cavani has been named in United's starting line up to play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon. That start is just Cavani's seventh in the Premier League this season.
Cavani's contract at United is set to expire next month and Rangnick has now confirmed his departure. Speaking ahead of United's match against Palace this afternoon, Rangnick also revealed 10 players would be staying beyond the summer.
"It would be good to finish this season with a good game, three points, and I'm pretty sure the team sees it the same way," Rangnick told MUTV. "Out of our starting XI, there will be 10, apart from Edi Cavani, who will still be playing for this club next season.
"I presume they’d much rather play in the Europa League than the Conference League."
Cavani will leave United with a total of 59 appearances for the club. The other players who are starting who Rangnick confirmed will stay are David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Alex Telles, Fred, Scott McTominay, Hannibal Mejbri, Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Elanga.
