Manchester United confirm captain for Liverpool FC legends match

Gary Neville will captain Manchester United legends when they face Liverpool at Old Trafford next week.

United and Liverpool will lock horns in the Legends of the North charity clash on Saturday 21 May, which is looking to raise valuable funds for the Manchester United Foundation.

It has now been confirmed that United great Neville will captain Bryan Robson's team for the day and give him the chance to take on fierce rivals Liverpool once again.

“I’m really looking forward to stepping back out on the pitch and catching up with lads who I shared many great moments with,” he said. “But we know the reason we’re doing this is for the benefit of the Foundation.

“I’m passionate about supporting young people in Greater Manchester and giving them opportunity to succeed in life, and I know the Foundation does that so well. I’ve no doubt that United fans will come out in their nu mbers to support a great cause and I look forward to seeing them on 21st May.”

Neville becomes the latest player to be announced for United’s side, following on from a host of club legends. He joins the likes of Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov, Nicky Butt, Jaap Stam, Patrice Evra, Antonio Valencia and Dwight Yorke in signing up to take on their old rivals.

Diego Forlan, John O’Shea, Mikael Silvestre, Karel Poborsky, Wes Brown, Louis Saha, Ronny Johnsen, Jesper Blomqvist and Quinton Fortune are also set to represent United.
