Manchester United close stadium shop amid concerns over anti-Glazers protest

Manchester United’s Megastore closed early prior to kick-off on Sunday as supporters protested against the Glazer family's ownership of the club.

The protest, which was organised by The 1958 fan group, began outside the Dockyard at MediaCity ahead of the opening day fixture between United and Brighton. As the march reached Hotel Football, United security staff made the decision to shut the club’s shop.

The march would then head to the Munich Tunnel before doing a lap of the stadium. As the protest moved on the Megastore reopened but was forced to close again when the protest returned from its lap.

A huge cheer erupted from the fans as the shutters came down along with chants of ‘United’. Last season supporters marched prior to United's 3-2 win over Norwich City.

The 1958 had promised that this march would be louder than the last and so it proved. United begin their new era on the pitch with Erik ten Hag ready to lead his side out for the first time in a competitive fixture.
