Former Scotland international international Ally McCoist has claimed that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire "isn't going to hang around", as he backed the defender to leave the club ahead of the January transfer window.
Maguire was one of England's best players during their World Cup campaign in Qatar, as Gareth Southgate turned to the United defender for every game in the tournament. The 29-year-old, partnered alongside Manchester City's John Stones, kept three clean sheets in five appearances, before the Three Lions eventually bowed out in the quarter-finals with a 2-1 defeat to France.
The former Leicester City man would have been eager to show Erik ten Hag what he is capable of, having endured a poor start to the season. Maguire, who has been hampered with injuries, has dropped down the pecking order at Old Trafford under the Dutchman, with Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez being favoured as the club's starting central defenders.

And now McCoist has backed Maguire to leave United in search of more minutes, as he claimed that top four rivals Tottenham could well be a realistic destination for the defender.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist said: “I think he [Maguire] will move. I don’t think he may move, I’ll go one further – I think he WILL move.
“He isn’t going to hang around – he wants to play. I don’t think there are any guarantees that he’s going to march back into the Manchester United team, not in front of [Raphael] Varane and [Lisandro] Martinez.”
When asked where Maguire could end up, he added: “Well, that’s up for debate. Clearly he will want to play.
“Straight away off the top of my head, I’d say he’s good enough for Spurs. Arsenal? Maybe not at this moment in time. But he’s been one of England’s best players at the World Cup.”
