Manchester United can sell eight players to add over £100m to their transfer budget

Manchester United will need to splash the cash this summer to try and bridge the gap to the best at home and abroad.

Erik ten Hag's side finished third in the Premier League, but were nine points behind runners-up Arsenal and 14 adrift of champions City. With United back in the Champions League next season, winning the Carabao Cup and having an FA Cup final still to come, there are hopes that consistent success and title challenges may not be far away. But to do so there will need to be squad reinforcements.

The Reds are keen on a striker with Harry Kane at Tottenham and Napoli's Victor Osimhen the leading targets. Both could command £100million fees though and with additions required elsewhere in the squad, United will need to balance the books.

Ten Hag is likely to allow several fringe players to move on if the price is right and those departures could help fund big money moves elsewhere. We take a look at the players who could depart United and raise vital funds.

Fred

The midfielder may well start the FA Cup final against City on Saturday but could still depart this summer. The Brazil international is wanted by Fulham and hasn't completed 90 minutes for United since February. Given he's 30 and United are keen to add some youth to supplement their first choice midfield axis of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, a fee of around £20million could see him move on.

Harry Maguire

He's fallen down the pecking order under Ten Hag and the United boss said it will be down to the England international whether he moves on. The 30-year-old will still have top flight suitors despite mixed Old Trafford form over the past season or two. And while United won't get anywhere near the £80million they paid for him, he is still a sellable asset.

Dean Henderson

The goalkeeper has spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest this season and although injury curtailed his campaign, he managed 20 appearances as Steve Cooper's side beat the drop. Henderson's career at United looks over and the MEN understands Forest are prepared to do a deal for up to £30million for Henderson, 26, and have also indicated the salary they would be prepared to offer.

Eric Bailly

Has no future at United and this season has been spent with Marseille in France. The move included a deal to make the switch permanent but was clause dependent and the centre back didn't make enough league appearances to trigger a deal. Will be offered to clubs this summer.

Brandon Williams

Has managed just five minutes this season, as a late sub in the Carabao Cup and will be allowed to depart in the summer. The full back spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan with Norwich City and will likely have suitors in the Premier League and upper reaches of the Championship.

Donny van de Beek

The midfielder is back in training and the summer will tell us a lot about his United future. The Dutchman enjoyed success under Ten Hag at Ajax but seems set to depart. He's been out of action since picking up an injury in January but at 25 and with a wealth of experience behind him, he should still command a respectable fee.

Anthony Elanga

Has slipped down the pecking order this season and a move away might suit all parties. The young Swede has made 21 league starts for United since arriving but it's hard to imagine him getting much of a look in going forward given the competition.

Alex Telles

Surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and has been on loan at Sevilla this season, where he could end the campaign with a Europa League winner's medal. The left back won't oust Luke Shaw at left back and United have Tyrell Malacia emerging as his understudy.
