Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick sends Jesse Marsch private message after Leeds appointment

Newly-appointed Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch revealed that Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick sent him a message after his arrival at Elland Road.

The American replaces Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds after the Argentine was relieved of his duties at the West Yorkshire side, with the new coach admitting he was "thankful" to not encounter Rangnick's United side.

United handed Bielsa one of his final defeats during their barren run saw, with the 4-2 win for Rangnick helping Leeds topple down the Premier League table — thrusting them into the thick of the relegation battle.

Marsch was sacked from his role at RB Leipzig in November — having previously worked under Rangnick at the Red Bull Group — but is now back in management with Leeds his first Premier League club. And he was quick to namecheck his former mentor.

He said, via Leeds Live : " Rangnick introduced complex football tactical and ideas to me in a way that ignited my passion for being a top manager. Thankful we are not playing them down the stretch.

"He sent me a note and that was great. A good luck note."

The 48-year-old was second in command to the temporary United boss during the German's second managerial stint at RB Leipzig.

Marsch spent a year alongside the 63-year-old before moving over to RB Salzburg as Rangnick handed the reins over to Julian Nagelsmann, before taking up a position higher up in the Red Bull football franchise. He then moved to Lokomotiv Moscow before arriving at United in November last year.
