Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick makes Champions League plea to the Premier League

Ralf Rangnick has made a plea to the Premier League regarding their rules on substitutions.

On Wednesday night, the interim Manchester United boss was able to make five changes thanks to Champions League regulations.

He used these to full effect with his fourth sub, Anthony Elanga, snatching a late goal to ensure United and Atletico Madrid go into the second leg of their last-16 tie level.

Speaking about substitutions in his press conference, Rangnick said: "Yes, it’s obviously a big part. I would have loved to have five subs as well in the Premier League, but unfortunately, this is not the case.

"I can still only hope, and I think it’s not only me but most of the other managers of the other clubs as well, that they change their mind at one stage and allow five substitutions.

"That was important for us in the Champions League game.

"It’s one of the jobs of managers, that they help their team to win games and it’s important that we could change and regroup at half-time and in the second-half by bringing on fresh players and all of them helped to improve our performance in the second half."

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they host Watford at Old Trafford.
