Manchester United Boss Amorim On Threat Of Relegation

Ruben Amorim has responded to the threat of Manchester United getting pulled closer towards the relegation zone after their latest Premier League defeat.

Manchester United suffered their eighth defeat of the campaign on Boxing Day, as goals from Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan secured a 2-0 victory for Wolves.

Their hopes weren’t helped by Bruno Fernandes receiving his third red card of the season.

Despite their defeat, United remained eight points clear of the relegation zone after Leicester’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool.

However, they slipped another place in the table to 14th after West Ham leapfrogged them with a win over Southampton.

Things don’t get much easier for Amorim’s side either as they host an in-form Newcastle on Monday.

Ruben Amorim On Manchester United Relegation Threat

After Manchester United suffered their latest defeat, Ruben Amorim was asked about the threat of getting pulled closer to the relegation zone.

“In this moment, we just have to survive and to win sometimes, to work on the team,” Amorim responded.

“We already knew it, when I started this job and started with the team. The new idea of no time to train, a lot of games, tough games, we already knew it.

“It’s a long journey. Like I said in the first day we have to continue and we have to fight these bad moments because this is part of football.”

Manchester United could slip closer to the relegation zone if they suffer a bad result against Newcastle. The Magpies have won their last three games on the trot and are now fifth in the Premier League table.

United’s Struggles

The decision to replace Erik ten Hag with Ruben Amorim has not seen any improvement for Manchester United.

United have lost five of their last seven games. Though relegation would seem a long-shot, a bottom-half finish is becoming a real possibility.

Players are struggling for form, while Marcus Rashford was again left out of the side after his admission over wanting to leave the Red Devils.

Despite their bad form, they are also just six points off the top-six.
