Manchester United announce friendly and training camp during World Cup

Manchester United will play La Liga side Cadiz CF in a friendly on December 7 as part of their plans for the resumption of the domestic season.

United will not play a Premier League match between November 13 and December 27 but will travel to Spain for a week-long warm-weather training camp.

The Cadiz match will be held at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium and kick-off at 7pm UK time.

United football director John Murtough said: "Erik and the team have made good progress during this first half of the season, and it is important we maintain this momentum coming out of the World Cup break. A winter training camp will be a vital part of the team’s preparations for the second half of the season.

"We have lined up a high-quality local opponent to play against, ensuring match fitness and sharpness is retained. The camp and game will also allow for some of our young talent to experience training and playing in a first-team environment, as well as provide entertaining club football for fans.”

David de Gea, Donny van de Beek, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho could be among the high-profile players who participate in the game due to their situations at international level.

Victor Lindelof, Anthony Elanga and Scott McTominay are certain to be available as their nations did not qualify for the World Cup.

If United beat Aston Villa in their third round League Cup tie next Thursday then they will play their fourth round match the week beginning December 19.

United restart their Premier League schedule at home to Nottingham Forest on December 27.
