Manchester United and Ralf Rangnick break silence on fans protesting outside Carrington

Ralf Rangnick says he respects Manchester United fans' protests outside the club's Carrington training complex.

Police were called after around two dozen supporters gathered on Isherwood Road, which leads up to Birch Road, a country lane the training complex is situated on.

The usual entrance to the training complex was closed and visitors were redirected to the rear entrance that is reserved for first-team players when they arrive for training. Bedsheets unfurled by the supporters read, 'Disgrace not fit to wear the shirt' and 'Glazers out'.

United players were not on the premises at the time but Dean Henderson was caught up in the protests as he approached the training ground.

"We all know football is a game of passion and emotions," Rangnick said. "I think we can all understand, I can understand, that our supporters being disappointed both with our standing in the table and the performance we showed against Everton, at least after we conceded that first goal.

"But I still believe our supporters are one of the best, if not the best, in England and as long as they do that protest in a peaceful way, and as long as they still support the team in the stadium, I think they have a right to express their opinion.

"Emotionally, I can understand their being disappointed."

A United spokesperson said: "There was a small and peaceful protest outside the Carrington training ground today. We respect the opinions of fans and remain committed to strengthening our engagement with them."
