Manchester United and Man City fixtures chosen for TV coverage in August

The fixtures for the 2022/23 Premier League season have been released with Manchester United and Manchester City fans already jotting dates down in their diaries.

The new campaign is a little more than seven weeks away, and will be a bit different to recent seasons. This winter’s World Cup means the Premier League will pause for a month between November 12 and December 26.

There will also only be three matchdays during the festive period — Boxing Day, December 31 and January 2 — to combat fatigue for the players. The season is set to start a week earlier than usual on August 5 and it ends on May 28.

Those who cannot attend games in person will be eager to know when their team is being broadcast on TV. Some fixtures, such as the Manchester derbies and the games against Liverpool, are a dead cert to be televised even if not confirmed yet.

But a number of matches have indeed already been picked for broadcast. Sky Sports is set for 128 Premier League matches this time around with BT Sport being handed 50 and Amazon Prime, 20.

The opening match of the season, Crystal Palace against Arsenal on Friday, August 5, will be broadcast by Sky. The broadcaster will also show Everton versus Chelsea a day later.

United are first broadcast at home to Brighton on Sunday, August 7 at 2pm as Erik ten Hag’s take his competitive Old Trafford bow as the new boss. A few hours later at 4.30pm, Sky is covering City ’s trip to West Ham as they begin the quest for a third straight title.

BT Sport has only announced one match so far — Liverpool’s trip to Fulham in the early Saturday kick-off on August 6. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime has confirmed all 20 of their allocation.

They will broadcast all games across the weekend of October 18 and 19, and also the return of the Premier League post-World Cup on Boxing Day. All TV fixtures for August and September will be confirmed and announced by July 5 with October’s selections chosen by July 29.
