Manchester United and Crystal Palace charged with failing to control players over mass brawl

The Football Association (FA) has charged both Manchester United and Crystal Palace following a fracas at their Premier League game on the weekend.

In the 67th minute, the incident was sparked by Jeffrey Schlupp’s late challenge on Antony, which left the United winger sprawled out by the pitchside advertising boards.

Casemiro, Fred and a number of other home players took exception before pushing and shoving began with the likes of Jordan Ayew, Michael Olise, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane getting involved.

The FA have charged both teams on an allegation of failing to “ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and/or refrained from provocative behaviour”.

The incident also saw Casemiro sent off after VAR spotted the United midfielder grabbing Will Hughes around the throat, landing him with a three-game ban.

On Thursday, it was confirmed that United face a further charge of allegedly failing to “ensure players refrain from violent behaviour”.

Both clubs have until Monday, February 13 to respond.

Erik ten Hag made clear his disappointment with the decision to send Casemiro off but decided against an official appeal, later explaining “I don't think we have a chance”.
