Manchester United ace Fred hints at transfer intentions after FA Cup final amid Fulham interest

Midfielder Fred has vowed that he plans to 'continue fighting' for Manchester United amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

The Brazilian international, who started Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley, has emerged as a target for fellow Premier League outfit Fulham ahead of the transfer window officially opening for business in just over a week's time. The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that intermediaries have proposed a possible move for the 30-year-old.

United have plans to bolster their midfield options this summer and recruit a younger and more dynamic central-midfielder, meaning they will likely be forced to first cut their cloth in that position. Though Fred, on the whole, enjoyed a respectable campaign, he is unlikely to ever be a regular starter again.

In total, Fred, who joined United from Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk in June 2018, made 56 appearances this term, scoring six goals and grabbing six assists. And despite ongoing speculation surrounding his future, the midfielder has vowed to continue trying to help the Reds.

"A defeat is always hard to take," Fred wrote on his Instagram page. "Thanks for all the support this season.

"With our heads held high, we will continue to fight together for United. Thanks, God."

Fred, who has made a total 213 appearances across his five-year spell at United, was filmed speaking to Fulham manager Marco Silva after the Reds' 2-1 triumph over the Cottagers on the final day of the Premier League season at Old Trafford last Sunday. The midfielder is about to enter the final year of his contract, meaning United could choose to cash in this summer.

In order for United to bring in the new central-midfielder they crave, they, in an ideal world, do need to let one of their current crop go. Scott McTominay is continuing to be heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United but the Reds have not provisionally planned for his sale this summer.
