Manchester’s 10 best restaurants revealed - according to diners

The 10 best restaurants in Manchester, according to reviews from diners, has been revealed. Bookings site OpenTable has collated the city spots with the best rated places from more than 400,000 user reviews and compiled the list.

And coming out on top is neighbourhood tapas bar Bar San Juan in Chorlton. The small but much-loved restaurant, which is packed out every night of the week, has an ‘exceptional’ rating from the site, from more than 1000 diner reviews.

It’s not the first time that the restaurant has been lauded - it won the Neighbourhood Venue of the Year at the 2022 Manchester Food and Drink Awards, and has been a staple of Chorlton’s Beech Road since it opened in 2010.

Top dishes include a melt-in-the-mouth beef cheek, chorizo cooked in Galician cider and spicy spreaded Majorcan sausage with quails eggs.

It’s followed by another small plates style restaurant, Volta, in Didsbury, which is run by DJs turned restaurant and bar owners Luke Cowdrey and Justin Crawford, aka the Unabombers. The Burton Road bar and restaurant also gets an ‘exceptional’ rating in the poll.

Following Volta on the list is the recently opened Sterling bar, in the basement of Gary Neville’s Stock Exchange Hotel, which is run by the Schofield brothers, with its bar snack menu coming from its new restaurant upstairs, the Stock Market Grill.
