'Manchester is RED' - Marcus Rashford and Manchester United teammates react to derby win on social media

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford led the social media celebrations after scoring the winner to secure victory over Manchester City.

United had less of the ball in the first half but did have the greater opportunities. Bruno Fernandes was unlucky not to give the hosts the lead when he dragged his shot wide of Ederson's goal.

City rallied following the restart and found themselves ahead thanks to substitute Jack Grealish who headed past a helpless David de Gea on the hour mark. The game-changing moment hinged on an offside decision.

Rashford's run in behind looked to have been mistimed but the forward opted to leave the ball for Fernandes to finish. Initially the official on the far side chose to put his flag up however, after a VAR review, the goal was allowed to stand.

Momentum had turned in favour of the hosts and the winner was netted just four minutes later. A cross from youngster Alejandro Garnacho was turned home by Rashford to the delight of the Stretford End.

After the match, captain for the day Fernandes urged the Stretford End to give Rashford a thunderous ovation which they duly delivered. Once in the dressing room, the match winner sent a simple message to the United fans.

The English forward's words were echoed by France international Raphael Varane.

Brazilian midfielder Fred was an unsung hero in the heart of the United midfield and he was also keen to kickstart the celebrations. He tweeted: "This is Manchester United."

At half-time, Erik ten Hag decided to substitute Anthony Martial for Antony who had one of his quieter games on the right-hand flank as Rashford slotted in down the middle. Having experienced his first home Manchester derby, the winger was quick to savour the moment.

Question marks had been raised by some outsiders about Luke Shaw's ability to play at centre-back and whether he would be trusted to do so in a big game. However, the natural full-back proved he was capable of filling into his new defensive slot when it matters most.
