Manchester is getting its own beach club this summer

We all know that 'Manchester has everything except a beach', but that doesn't mean we can't have our own beach club.

A new bar concept will be popping up at Great Northern Square off Deansgate this summer and it's big on beach vibes. Coconut Rum brand Malibu will be launching the pop-up beach club this May, complete with palm trees, colourful deck chairs, and plenty of photo opportunities.

Named Malibu Beach Club and launched in collaboration with retro games bar, Pong & Puck, the new tropical terrace will open next Friday and will run until the end of September. Visitors can except frozen cocktails, fruity summer spirits and a large Malibu-inspired shot menu.

Drinks wise, there's a variety of beach-inspired cocktails to sip on including the Piña Colada and Miami Vice drinks amongst many other fruity and fun serves, including a coconut twist on the classics. Happy hour will also take place Sunday through Thursday, 5-7pm, with pizzas topped with mushroom and truffle as well as pineapple.

Getting people into the holiday spirit, Malibu will be hosting a line-up of DJs playing breezy summer anthems, and those really embracing the holiday vibes can indulge in the bottomless brunch available on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend package includes frozé cocktails, selected house cocktails and more.

While we're hoping for glorious sunshine this summer, we're also aware that despite the tiki terrace transporting us to warmer climes, we are still in Manchester. With that in mind, and if the rain does come down, visitors can also head into Pong & Puck and enjoy its range of games, spanning shuffleboard, beer pong, prosecco Pong and table tennis.

Soundtracked by hits from the 80s, 90s and 00s, the retro games bar opened last year, and invites guests to ‘play, drink and party’. Decked out with neon signs and given a pop of colour through its graffiti and wall murals, the concept comes courtesy of the team behind Bar Hütte, whose much-loved, alpine-inspired karaoke huts have become a firm fixture of Manchester's Christmas Markets.

The Malibu Beach club opens on Friday, May 5 until September 30, and there will be a number of giveaways and events when it launches next week.
