Two tram crashes in different areas of Manchester caused delays for travellers during rush hour this evening. It comes after a police incident in Ancoats caused the closure of a tram line for much of the afternoon.
One tram crashed into a bus on Princess Street near to St Peter's Square, while in Chorlton Tram Station one tram crashed into another. This led to delays on both services while Metrolink dealt with the collisions.
The Stagecoach Bus 197 service had visible damage to its back right side, with engineers called to make repairs. A significant amount of liquid could be seen coming from the smashed area of the bus, but the bus was able to drive away with no passengers on board.

No injuries have been reported in this collision. The collision in Chorlton caused the trams to be put 'out of order' according to a passenger on board.
They told the MEN: " People from both affected trams had to get off and wait for the next one since they were considered out of order. Fortunately no one was injured. Had to wait 10 mins for the next tram."
A witness to the city centre collision said: "A tram just crashed into a stationary bus, scraping along the side for 10 metres or so with a loud crunching sound." Transport for Greater Manchester confirmed the two collisions, but reported no 'serious' damage or injuries. The collisions also caused 'minimal disruption', they said.
A spokesperson for TfGM said: “We can confirm that there were two minor, unrelated collisions earlier today involving our trams – one in the city centre involving a bus, and the other at Chorlton tram stop.
“No serious damage or injuries were reported, with minimal disruption to services.”
