Manchester Food and Drink Festival to take a year off - but awards will still go ahead

The Manchester Food and Drink Festival won’t happen in 2023. Organisers have revealed they’ll be taking a year off for the first time since the event started 25 years ago, bar missing a year due to the pandemic.

The annual awards will still take place, however, with the best in Manchester’s food and drink scene being honoured for their hard work.

Festival director Alexa Stratton-Powell said: “After 25 years of staging the Manchester Food and Drink Festival we will be taking a break in 2023.

“Creating the Festival is a labour of love and as a small team we wanted to take a breather and regroup ahead of bringing the Festival back in 2024.

“The Awards will continue to celebrate our wonderful hospitality industry, and will be taking place in September as usual. We look forward to seeing everyone next year."

Over the years, the MFDF has brought a host of world-famous names to the city, with the likes of Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Tom Kerridge and Michel Roux all having been guests of the festival in past years.

The event would usually take place in Cathedral Gardens, with bars, food vendors and entertainment during the week, as well as satellite events all over the city.

The awards, meanwhile, have both honoured long-standing heroes of the Manchester food scene, championed new talent with categories like Best Newcomer and Best Street Food Trader, as well as the likes of Best Brewery and Best Retailer.

Winners over the years have included the likes of Where The Light Gets In, Mana, Hawksmoor, Cloudwater, Rudy’s, Trove, Bundobust and Baratxuri.
