A firefighter is embarking on a unique challenge at the London Marathon to support a cause close to his heart.
Garry Maybanks, a firefighter from Manchester, is gearing up to run the London Marathon on April 23.
However, he won't just be running the 26-mile route like the thousands of other participants; Garry will be completing the race in full firefighting gear, including breathing apparatus, weighing over 20kg.

Garry, 38, who works for Greater Manchester Fire And Rescue Service and is attached to Moss Side Stations Green Watch, will be undertaking this physical feat to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurones Disease Association.
He was inspired to take on the challenge following the death of a much loved member of the family, Wendy, who passed away recently after living with MND.
Garry's first ever marathon will see him run through the streets of London passing by some of the capital's most recognisable landmarks and finishing on the Mall beside Buckingham Palace.
Garry is training hard knowing that running the marathon while wearing full gear will be incredibly tough - but is determined to raise much needed funds and awareness to help tackle MND.
He said: “Recently we lost a much loved member of our family after a long and courageous battle with MND.
"Wendy Esposito was an amazing women who had a great impact on the lives of those lucky enough to spend time in her company. She was especially close to my wife, Melissa Maybanks, who shared an extremely special relationship with her.”
Garry is hoping that the challenge will not just raise a great amount which can help in the fight against MND but to also celebrate the life of Wendy.
“I have always wanted to run the London Marathon so when the opportunity arose to run for the MND association and not only raise some much needed funding but also celebrate the life of Wendy it was the perfect opportunity for myself.
"The introduction of running the marathon in my full fire kit and breathing apparatus set was for me personally to test my physical and mental capabilities. Roll on Sunday the 23rd of April.”
