Erling Haaland and Phil Foden both scored hat-tricks as a sublime Manchester City team put rivals Manchester United to the sword, running out 6-3 winners.
Despite missing John Stones, Ruben Dias and Rodri – as well as losing Kyle Walker to injury – Pep Guardiola’s side were irresistible inside the Etihad Stadium, toying with United at will.
Haaland, Foden and Kevin De Bruyne put on a masterclass of attacking football, punishing United on the counter equally as easily as they passed around Erik ten Hag’s side.
Antony and Anthony Martial did manage to get on the scoresheet for United, though the first was a wonderstrike out of nowhere, while the second came after City had switched off having already scored their sixth.
Questions will of course be asked of United, although perhaps not quite as intensely as they were in the wake of their loss to Brentford. While cut apart far too easily, City’s quality will punish most teams and the scoreline flattered their visitors.
