A Manchester coffee shop is taking part in an initiative that will see them hand out free hot drinks in exchange for kindness as the festive season approaches. Mosley Street’s 200 Degrees is appealing for donations of basic hygiene items as part of a one-day Swap Shop scheme.
The cafe is appealing for new, unused and unopened hygiene items as part of the annual event, which takes place on Tuesday, December 6. The products will then be distributed to local people struggling to cope with the cost of living through the charity Switch Up.
Anyone who takes a product to donate will be given the chance to bag a free hot beverage.

It comes as many people are unable to afford basic hygiene items as energy prices soar and people struggle to heat their homes. As a result, 200 Degrees are asking for the following products to be donated:
-
Deodorant
-
Shower gel
-
Shampoo
-
Toothpaste
-
Toothbrushes
-
Toilet roll
-
Nappies
-
Baby products
-
Washing powder
-
Sanitary products
-
Everyday household cleaning products
-
Perfume
-
Make-up
Donations will be accepted at the Mosley Street branch, as well as their cafes across the UK in cities including Derby, Leeds and Birmingham.
CEO Rob Darby said: “The festive season is all about celebrating with friends and family, but with the current cost of living-crisis, there are sadly thousands of families who are facing challenging times and struggling to afford essential, everyday items.
“This year we have decided to donate all products to Switch Up. As our new charity partner, we want to provide our utmost support to help as many local people as we can. The Swap Shop is a great opportunity for us to make a small but positive difference to those who need it most and give something back to our customers in exchange for their kindness.”
Marcellus Baz, founder and CEO of Switch Up, described the initiative as ‘invaluable’, and hopes it will have a major impact on the community.
He said: “The support of 200 Degrees, through their amazing Swap Shop initiative, made a significant difference to the help we could provide to vulnerable families across Nottingham last Christmas.
“This year is set to be even bigger; the last thing disadvantaged families will buy is toiletry products as food and energy will always take preference, therefore this partnership with 200 Degrees is invaluable. The addition of the donations, that will be made through the Switch Up coffee, will help us make an even bigger impact.”
You can take your unopened hygiene items to 200 Degrees on Mosley Street from 7.30am to 6pm on Tuesday, December 6 to claim your free coffee while doing your bit for charity.
