Manchester bar Schofield’s has landed in the top five cocktail bars in the whole of the UK. The bar, on Little Quay Street, was named number four in the annual top 50 Cocktail Bars list, up from number 16 last year.
The bar shot out in front of fellow city cocktail spot Speak In Code on Jackson's Row, which was in 10th place last year, and climbed to eighth place in this year’s list. Also featured in this year’s list is Blinker at number 41, which opened on Spring Gardens last summer.

The ceremony was held in London, with Satan’s Whiskers, in Bethnal Green in East London, being named the UK’s best cocktail bar, up from number five in the chart last year. Though Manchester nabbed three places in the top 50, London dominated with 23 entries in all.
Chris Lowe, publisher of Top 50 Cocktail Bars, said: “Whilst London continues to dominate this year’s list, it is very exciting to see other major cities across the UK make their mark. The ever-growing interest in cocktails and bartending within the UK means we are spoilt for choice on where to go, and this list allows for the best of the UK bar scene to have a spotlight placed on them – and for consumers to find these hidden gems.”
Brothers Dan and Joe Schofield, originally from Rossendale, opened up Schofield’s in 2021 after having worked in some of the world’s top bars, including The American Bar at the Savoy Hotel and Coupette in London.
The pair followed Schofield’s with Sterling, the new bar in the basement of the Stock Exchange Hotel, late last year. They also run Atomeca at Deansgate Square. Meanwhile, their first restaurant, the Stock Market Grill, which will replace Tom Kerridge’s Bull & Bear at the Stock Exchange, is set to open next month.
