Man City XI vs Atletico Madrid: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for Champions League

Manchester City are missing two key defenders but have one back for tonight’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.

Pep Guardiola is without Kyle Walker who is banned and Ruben Dias will miss the first leg of the quarter-final tie while still over a week away from returning.

Guardiola stated before the win over Burnley that the defender’s hamstring injury has still not cleared, putting him towards the later end of his initial absence timescale of four to six weeks.

Cole Palmer is also missing due to a foot problem and the City boss gave no further causes for concern when addressing the media on Monday afternoon.

John Stones returns in defence having been named on the bench on Saturday. The centre-back missed both of England’s matches over the international week with a muscle issue. Nathan Ake also starts and could be shifted out to left-back with Joao Cancelo at right-back.

Gabriel Jesus was lively off the bench at Turf Moor but keeps his place among the substitutes, while Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez return to the starting XI.

Starting XI: Ederson, Cancelo, Stones, Laporte, Ake, Rodrigo, Gundogan, Bernardo, Mahrez, De Bruyne, Sterling

Subs: Steffen, Carson, Jesus, Grealish, Zinchenko, Fernandinho, Foden, Egan-Riley, Mbete
