Manchester City have the luxury of a Champions League dead rubber as they welcome Sevilla to the Etihad tonight.
A goalless draw against Borussia Dortmund a week ago was good enough to secure top spot in Group G for Pep Guardiola’s side, and they will be a team to be avoided when the last-16 draw takes place.
Sevilla sit third in the group and that is where they will finish regardless of the result in Manchester, with the La Liga side dropping down to the Europa League after Christmas. It’s been a terrible start to the season for them, sitting in the relegation zone domestically with the break for the World Cup just a couple of weeks away.
While rotation is expected from both sides, and Erling Haaland will not be involed for the hosts, Guardiola will be keen for his side to finish the group stage in style, particularly as they have failed to score in their last two European matches.
