Manchester City have announced that Phil Foden has signed a three-year contract extension at the club - providing a huge morale boost ahead of Sunday's trip to Anfield.
The Stockport-born academy star has extended his stay at the Etihad until 2027 after penning an extra three years on his previous two-year deal. He will join his City teammates in a huge clash on Sunday, when Pep Guardiola's men come to Merseyside in a bid to pull 16 points clear of their main title rivals from the past five years.
Liverpool have endured their worst start to a league season for a decade, with just two wins and 10 points from their opening eight games. Despite a slow start domestically, however, Klopp's side go into Sunday on the back of a thumping 7-1 win at Rangers on Wednesday - their third consecutive Champions League win.

City drew 0-0 at FC Copenhagen midweek after going down to 10-men early on, but the fact their clash was on Tuesday, plus Guardiola's decision to rest the likes of Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva and Foden, could have handed an early advantage. And now the current Premier League champions can enjoy another boost with the announcement their boyhood Cityzen has extended his stay.
The 22-year-old has been in outstanding form this season, picking up six goals and three assists in nine league games, including a hat-trick in the 6-3 win against Manchester United. Despite Haaland understandably grabbing the headlines for his outrageous goalscoring exploits - 15 goals in nine league games - the form of Foden will be equally, if not more, pleasing for Guardiola.
Despite polarising starts to the season, the City boss is under no illusion of the task at hand this Sunday, admitting in his pre-game press conference that he expects the Reds to remain their closest title rivals and for this weekend to prove one of the season's toughest games.
Guardiola also confirmed he will be without England trio Kalvin Phillips, John Stones and Walker through injury.
