Manchester City handed early boost for potential Real Madrid tie after Eder Militao earns Champions League ban

Real Madrid will be without Eder Militao for the first leg of their Champions League semi-final - likely against Manchester City.

The Brazilian defender, who has been a star of Carlo Ancelotti’s side over the past two seasons, picked up his second booking of the European campaign in Tuesday night’s win over Chelsea.

A first-half lunge for the ball saw Militao take out Kai Havertz, swiftly earning a yellow card from referee Daniele Orsato.

Antonio Rudiger will be the favourite to partner David Alaba in defence in the first leg, at the Bernabeu on May 9.

Madrid were, however, boosted by Dani Carvajal coming through the win at Chelsea unscathed as he was also a booking away from a ban.

City are on the verge of booking a meeting with Los Blancos when they travel to Bayern Munich tonight.

Erling Haaland and Co put themselves in a commanding position with a 3-0 first-leg win at the Etihad Stadium and will likely have the change to avenge their shock semi-final defeat at the hands of Real a year ago.
