Manchester City £36 million asset can be perfect fit for Chelsea following Real Madrid display

Riyad Mahrez is the man that just keeps on giving. If you were unconvinced about a move to Chelsea for the Algerian, his Champions League performances should tip the scales.

Last Night, Manchester City took on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final. An incredible end to end clash with an emphatic show of football and skill. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of impact Mahrez would have had if he was at Chelsea.

Mahrez will be out of contract in 2023, and Pep Guardiola will need to make a decision on the forwards future. Well, maybe Thomas Tuchel could give him a hand?

Chelsea has not had the best of luck when signing forwards in recent years. The most notable, Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, have not quite lived up to the expectations set. With the possibility of both forwards leaving the club this summer, it is only right to evaluate suitable replacements, and Riyad Mahrez has the correct profile. I guess that's why we have been linked with the Algerian in recent months.

With 23 goals in all competitions, Mahrez has scored more than any other Chelsea player this season. It's an astonishing stat, considering that he has only started in 28 games out of 43.

The City forward is currently valued at £36 million, according to Transfer Markt. It would be a swift cheap alternative with a creative outlet needed for Chelsea's front line. He proved it against Real Madrid. The 31-year-old gave Ferland Mendy and David Alaba a torrid time on the right flank. He managed to cut through the Los Blancos defence with ease, causing trouble for their backline and causing Thibaut Courtois to remain on high alert.

Of course, Pep Guardiola's side is a force to be reckoned with. Their attack is one of, if not the best that we've seen in a long time. It's difficult to pick out a star player from them. Despite missing the target twice, the Algerian still remained one of the night's stand-out players. His name was in sentences with Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne, who both gave extraordinary performances.

Chelsea have been long admirers of Mahrez, with strong suggestions he could have joined the Blues from Leicester before he made the switch to Manchester City in 2018. It's a long shot with the likes of PSG and Barcelona also in the running to sign Mahrez, but it is definitely a signature worth fighting for.
