With Bonfire night nearly upon us, the skies will soon be lit up by bright fireworks.
This year, the holiday will fall on Saturday, November 5 with a variety of events and displays being organised across Greater Manchester. While Manchester City Council announced its decision to axe any official Bonfire Night celebrations due to 'escalating costs', there will still be a number of independent displays taking place in the region.
This means there will be no planned council displays in Heaton Park, Fallowfield or Wythenshawe.
Bonfire Night is celebrated every year in commemoration of the failed gunpowder plot which sought to blow up the House of Lords and King James I in 1605.

The plot was famously initiated by Guy Fawkes, which is why some people refer to the holiday as Guy Fawkes Night.
