Manchester Airport to fully reopen Terminal 3 to cope with surge of holidaymakers

Manchester Airport has confirmed that it will fully reopen its Terminal 3 later this week, to help cope with "the increased demand following the easing of travel restrictions".

The terminal will reopen on April 22, including a number of shops including WHSmith, Boots and Costa.

Terminal 3 partially reopened in late March, but will be fully reopening to passengers flying with airlines including British Airways, Ryanair and British Airways (you can see the fully list below).

Manchester Airport has been one of the airports worst hit by chaotic queues for passengers, with some travellers reporting facing up four-hour waits for the likes of airport security. Staff shortages caused by Covid have been one of five key factors causing UK airports to struggle under the pressure, as sun-starved Brits rush to book holidays.

Even with the the reopening of the terminal, Manchester Airport continues to urge Brits to arrive three hours before their flight to allow for any potential delays when it comes to check-in and security queues.

Airlines have also been attempting to help ease the pressure including advising the earliest times to arrive for check-in. Meanwhile, TUI passengers are being told they can drop off their bags the night before a flight.

Holidaymakers are also being asked to prep ahead of security to help minimise queues such as removing large electronic items out of their bag, sticking to liquids and gels under 100ml, and storing these in a clear re-sealable bag.

UK families faced chaotic scenes for the Easter holidays, with both airport delays and flight cancellations due to staff shortages and a surge in demand.

In fact research from aviation analytics firm Cirium found that over 1,236 flights in the UK have been cancelled by airlines between March 28 and April 12 - a 428% increase when compared to the same period in 2019.

The Home Office has also urged Brits to check their passports now ahead of the summer holidays, as passport applications can currently take up to 10 weeks to be processed due to a backlog after the pandemic.

It's estimated that over five million people have delayed their passport applications in 2020 and 2021.

Still, it's not all doom and gloom for sun-starved holidaymakers.

In recent months a host of countries have scrapped Covid travel rules entirely including Mexico and Iceland, and plenty of holiday hotspots are easing their restrictions.
