Manchester Airport passengers share pictures of chaotic queues

Chaos has ensued at Manchester Airport this afternoon with passengers reporting long queues.

In pictures shared on Twitter crowds of people can be seen in Terminal One.

Some holidaymakers said they had been waiting for over an hour to get through passport control.

According to the M.E.N, one holidaymaker claimed how he heard staff saying passengers would not be allowed off planes that had arrived at the airport.

He tweeted: "There are far worse things happening in the world now but, I'm stood in a more than 200m queue to get into arrivals at Manchester airport.

"Heard a member of staff on the phone say "you'll have to stop people getting off, there's nowhere for them to go."

Another man wrote: "Welcome to Manchester Airport. Can border controls and security get any worse? MAG needs to sort this out."

A third passenger said: "37 minutes to get through passport control, to then find luggage still hasn’t appeared on the belt!!

"Flight landed an hour ago!"

Another tweeted: "@manairport getting back into our own country is beyond a joke...T1 queues about 500m long!!"

And a fifth said: "You still have T3 closed and T1 is overcapacity. You need to look at your capacity model and look how to prevent a 1.5 hour queue after an 8 hour flight."

Manchester Airport has responded to people on Twitter diverting their complaints to UK Border Force.

They said: "Manchester Airport apologises for the delay you experienced in the Immigration Hall.

"UK Border Force manages this part of the customer journey and if you wish to make a formal complaint, please contact complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk. Thank you."

The reason for the delay has not yet been confirmed.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: "We are aware of reports that some passengers have had to queue for an extended period at the border today.

"We want all passengers arriving into Manchester to have the best possible experience and will continue to work with UK Border Force, which manages the immigration process, to ensure it is as smooth as possible, especially during busy holiday periods like this weekend."

The Home Office, which manage UK Border Force, has been contacted for comment.
