Manchester Airport evacuated after suspected fire incident

Manchester Airport has been partly evacuated after a blaze broke out at a busy terminal leaving some travellers 'traumatised'.

Firefighters have been pictured at Terminal 1 departures as people shared photos on social media demanding to know what was going on, the Mirror reports.

Passengers were told to evacuate 'immediately' due to the 'incident' but many have criticised the airport's silence since alarms sounded around 6pm. A fire engine was also photographed outside the building as desperate travellers pleaded for updates.

But tonight Manchester Airport told Mirror Online: "The T1 departure lounge was briefly evacuated due to a fire alarm at one of the food outlets.

"Around 200 passengers had to be re-screened and flights were held for them.

"The incident was stood down at around 6.15pm."

One traveller uploaded a video to Twitter where you can hear an alarm going off in the background.

A tannoy announcer can also be heard stating that "an incident has arisen" which requires the "immediate evacuation" of the terminal.

They tweeted: "Just been evacuated from an area of T1 at Manchester airport because of an incident. Hope everyone/everything is alright."

"Emergency services, including a fire engine, are at the scene."

Another passenger tweeted: "What a joke. 1 hour to get through security at Manchester."

"Then as soon as I get through the area is evacuated because of a fire? No where is open and there’s a line to get stuff from Smiths. #manchesterairport "

Another wrote: " @manairport what a joke... no other words could possibly describe the absolutely traumatising experience this airport is right now #dobetter "

They weren't alone in slamming the lack of communication.

"Would have been nice if someone had the sense to let people know what's going on...bad order," a tweet read from another.
