Manchester Airport apologise as they axe fast track express lanes through security

Manchester Airport have issued an apology after suspending bookings for its express lanes through security in all three terminals.

Passengers looking to bypass the security queues have been disappointed to find the option for the 'FastTrack' service is no longer available. Initially, Manchester Airport said passengers could still book a FastTrack pass outside peak hours, reported Manchester Evening News.

However, it has now been confirmed that outbound passengers cannot get a pass for security in any of the three terminals, online or offline. It's understood the decision was made by bosses as they were unable to provide a 'reliable' experience for passengers who paid the £4 to avoid longer queues.

Bookings made historically will be honoured, while travellers can still pay to use an express lane through Passport Control, although only in Terminal One. Bosses have said they will review their decision on this as soon as they are able to.

Many passengers had been taking advantage of the paid-for perk to avoid delays of up to 90 minutes caused by a staff shortage which last month led to an open apology from hub boss Charlie Cornish amid warnings travellers should arrive three hours before their flight. But on Manchester Airport's website, a statement now reads: "We are currently unable to offer our security FastTrack service to customers online. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, please check back regularly for reopening dates."

It goes on to say that FastTrack, which gives you access to a dedicated lane, is still available in Terminal One. It's understood that this is to allow them to deliver the standard of service that customers expect from a Fast Track product.

One passenger due to fly out on Thursday shared their disappointment and dread over the queues which could await them. They told the Manchester Evening News: "After seeing the recent delays at Manchester Airport, we tried to book the FastTrack security passes a few weeks before our flights but didn't have the option. It seems as though bookings fast-track for Terminal 2 have been closed for a while now.

"It's quite disappointing as being able to book would take the stress off a bit. We're now bracing ourselves for possible chaos, and will be relieved once we're through the airport and on the plane."
