Manager slams customer's review about 'nut roast dinner from 90s' as staff left in tears

A restaurant manager has slammed a customer's scathing review about a "nut roast dinner from the 1990s" that left staff in tears.

Maxy Farm Pantry and Restaurant in Preston, Lancashire, was on the wrong end of a scathing write-up following a recent visit.

One disgruntled diner who visited for Sunday lunch earlier this month said that the menu options, prices and service were not good enough, LancsLive reports.

She wrote on Tripadvisor : "Where to start? Table for six, Sunday Lunch, one of which was an 86 year old lady. We were told it was just roasts on a Sunday. Fair enough.

"The ONLY dish available for non-meat eaters is a Nut Roast which was vile at £15.

"Note to chef as vegetarians we don't eat Nut Roast as its no longer the 90’s.

"It would be an idea to get a little more creative and not just have the one very unappealing option without any other choice.

"Elderly mother ordered a children’s portion of chicken and asked if it could be sliced off the bone for her as she had arthritis in her fingers and found it difficult to use a knife and fork especially for stripping chicken off the bone.

"The message back from chef was ‘no she was far too busy, someone else in the party would have to do it...Oh that will be the vegetarian then will it... incredible.

"My advice, avoid Sunday Lunch the small portion was still charged at £15. Maybe okay for a coffee and a cake midweek but no more than a café."

But the restaurant manager has since hit back.

In their response, they politely referred to each point of the complaint, outlining why they didn't think the review was entirely warranted.

"I would normally thank customers for leaving a review, even if it is a bad one, but not on this occasion," he clapped back.

"After speaking to all staff members who worked on your visit I must disagree with some of your one-sided comments.

"On a Sunday afternoon we do only sell roast dinners. A concept which has proved highly successful.

"We offer three kinds of meat and a vegan/vegetarian option which we change every week so to not be boring.

"This week was a Mediterranean Veg parcel in Filo Pastry, and we had a few customers asking if we had the Wild Mushroom & Mixed Nut Roast on from the previous week. People who clearly don't think we are in the 90's.

"Your comment about what my chef said is not true.

"The server offered to put the chicken on a separate plate as our kitchen was too busy and was going to offer to take it off the bone for you, but you quickly replied, 'no that's ok', before she could offer.

"We never said that someone from your party will have to do it.

"What you also fail to mention is the thanks your party gave our server for her service and for singing happy birthday and brining a cake out.

"Your review left our server in tears which is why I felt I must respond. My advice to you is maybe its best you go elsewhere in future."
