Football fans have been angered after Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson opted against substituting on a player, in a moment which could’ve created FA Cup history.
The English League One side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Everton in the competitions third round.
But the fixture has been overshadowed by Ferguson's decision not to give Tyler Young, son of Everton star, Ashley, his special moment.
In the storied 154-year history of the FA Cup, a remarkable milestone has yet to be achieved: a father and son facing off in a competitive match.
And that had the chance to be changed when Ashley came off the Everton bench with the scoreline sitting at 1-0, yet the Posh manager opted to use alternatives from his available substitutes as they chased an equaliser.
"It was very difficult to leave Tyler on the bench but I've got to do what I think is best for the team," Ferguson explained following the match at Goodison Park on Thursday.
"As much as I wanted Tyler to get on, if the game had been 2-0 at that point I would've put him on but at 1-0, I had to get a forward on. I've got to try and get something out of the game and do what is best for my team.
"One of their [Everton] players had a pop at me, which was bang out of order. We are not a charity case."
