Manager breaks silence on status of Rangers transfer target interest with EPL ties

Standard Liege boss Ivan Leko has broken his silence on transfer speculation surrounding Rangers' interest in Isaac Price and insisted he's only concentrating on their next match.

Rangers have been linked with the former Everton midfielder, who has won 18 caps for Northern Ireland, in the next transfer window.

Price was criticised for his display by Belgian TV pundits as they lost at home to Gent, with former Belgian international keeper Silvio Proto stating: "When he plays like that, Isaac Price has no right to play in this team or even this league."

But Standard's Croatian boss Leko defended the 21-year-old and directly addressed interest from British clubs for him, with English Championships sides also reportedly keeping tabs on the youngster.

Leko said: "I'm not afraid of losing him in January because I'm not busy with that now. I'm only focused on the Mechelen match on Thursday.

"Isaac brings stability to the collective structure. Of course, a No.8 must also, ideally have maybe three goals and three assists this season and he has none. He lacks that, and he knows it.

"But we must not forget his age and the context in which he is evolving.

"I have no doubts about his potential. He is an excellent football player, we must give him a little time."
