Manager addresses 'disappointing' Nottingham Forest injury concern

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has confirmed that Scott McKenna has returned to Nottingham Forest after picking up an injury.

The central defender has been part of the Scotland side during their Nations League campaign this month and played a starring role in the victories over Ukraine and Republic of Ireland. However, despite not appeating to be injured against Ireland, it was confirmed on Sunday evening that the 25-year-old had left the squad due to injury.

The severity of the injury remains unclear, but McKenna has returned to the City Ground to be assessed ahead of next Monday's Premier League crunch clash with Leicester City.

Speaking to the press ahead of Tuesday night's fixture against Ukraine, Clarke confirmed that McKenna and Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney had dropped out of his squad.

He said: "It's obviously disappointing. You don't want to lose any player. Kieran and Scott are two good players playing to the best of their ability. As I always say, injuries are sent to test you and it's now a chance for someone else.

"It's disappointing to lose Scott McKenna. We've also got a sickness bug in the camp so maybe I wake up with a different set of problems. We just get on with it."

Steve Cooper is set to speak to the media later this week, where he will address McKenna's fitness ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium.
