Man with machete finds force is strong with Mersey Police Dog Yoda

The Mersey Police force is strong with a dog called Yoda.

The canine cop had a busy night on Wednesday - which started when human officers spotted a male with a machete.

The official Mersey Police Dogs twitter account tweeted: "Earlier tonight PD Yoda assisted officers after they spotted a male in possession of a machete before he made off.

"Yoda tracked the male and located some personal property belonging to the subject which will no doubt help to establish his identity"

Yoda was also on hand to assist colleagues last night when concerns were raised following reports of a male entering a large wooded area.

PD Yoda got to work in putting tracking training to the test and eventually, following a protracted search, the dog located the male in the woods.

Officers later tweeted: "The male is now safe and well and receiving the relevant support."

Yoda wasn't finished, though - and he was called into action again after an "intoxicated male made the decision to struggle with an officer after being stopped driving his car before making off".

"Unfortunately for him, Yoda was on hot on his heels and tracked him through the woods before locating him in some brambles," tweeted police.

All police dogs must first become experts at basic obedience training. They must obey the commands of their handler without hesitation as this is what keeps the inherent aggression of the dog in check, and allows the officer to control how much force the dog is using should the animal be called to act against a suspect.
